The New Frontier

“In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” – Andy Warhol

We live in a time when Warhol’s sentiment has never been more true.  And though this thought is also, perhaps, a critique on society’s attention span, it is undeniable that new technology has made it possible for the average citizen to exercise their First Amendment right to the fullest extent, even becoming famous in the process.

So what do we do with this newfound forum for our voice – this electronic platform from which we can broadcast our opinions and talents and even, as YouTube suggests, our very selves?  The team here at Docubloggers suggests we use the myriad tools available -and available for free – to engage with our community.

Community Engagement

Docubloggers is about community reflection and engagement through grassroots storytelling.  From fables to jokes to 24 hour news, the love for hearing and telling stories is universal.  Storytelling is a way to bring us closer together and to examine the world around us in an informative and entertaining way.  And so Docubloggers takes to the community with camera in hand to document the people, places, and events that make where we live special.  We then take these short documentaries, or “docublogs”, and share them with you.

The show makes it possible for anyone with a TV or internet connection to tune in to explore the stories that matter to them – the politics, arts, community and culture of Central Texas – but they can also participate in the conversation by contributing their own stories to the show and site.  The professional filmmaker and the weekend warrior can share their experiences on the same stage, and even learn from each other’s work.  Everyone’s voice has a chance to be heard.

Outreach

We understand that not everyone knows how to work a camera or to utilize the free resources available on the web to create and publish their work, so Docubloggers wants to help.  Through virtual and actual workshops, our goal is to assist anyone who wants to participate in learning how easy it is to flex their First Amendment muscle and join in the conversation.

The best way to learn how to tell a story is to listen to storytellers, so be sure to watch for new docublogs on our site as they’re posted.  Also stay tuned for video tutorials, and never hesitate to contact us with questions you have about the process.  We’ll help in any way we can.
